theatre sets
What camera would be best for shooting pictures of theatre sets?
I need a reasonably priced camera that will shoot good pictures of theatre sets and costumes on stage. Basically something that does well with dim and dark lighting. I'm worried that a point and shoot camera wouldn't produce a good enough quality image to use in a portfolio but I like their prices better. I'm considering the Fujifilm FinePix S2000HD and the Canon Powershot SX110IS

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! 
You're right - a P&S camera won't do a good job.
If you use a tripod to avoid camera shake, you will be able to photos that are in focus and not blurred, but they will be either grainy or have harsh light issues from a flash.
At the very minimum you will need to pick a camera that lets you attach an external flash, because those ones you can bounce in a variety of ways to improve the result.
However, if you have dark conditions and a flash isn't appropriate, you will need a camera with a FAST lens, i.e. an aperture of f/2.8 or even bigger. Only a DSLR with a very good lens will give you that.
