What is the proper way to ask for a donation in lieu of a birthday present on a sweet 16 invitation?
Two young ladies will be celebrating their special day and
there will be large containers in the entry of the country club
for guests to place their cash or check. I didn't think it was
necessary to state the charity. The cause is in another
country therefore if someone preferred to write a check
it would have to be made out to the birthday girl or her parents
to cash and consolidate. Help!
I would say something on the invitation like....
"The young ladies simply ask for the gift of your presence on their special day. However, should you wish to give a gift, you may feel free to add to a fund that they will be donating to ________. Donations can be made at the party."
That way it's clear beforehand that the guests should not purchase presents, and that they don't have to donate if they don't want to.
